The Week that T'was

Science - In Science, we have been going to different classes and working on challenges.  One challenge was building a Lego bridge.  (And our class has beaten all the other classes so far).  We have learned that an arch is good for balance, as are triangles.  Beams are also good for supporting a heavy load.  On bridges there are compression (a pushing force), tension (a pulling force), as well as torsion (twisting) and shear (sliding).  In Mr. Duggan's class we built a suspension bridge out of popsicle sticks and other materials. The bridge had to be 90 cm long and 40 cm tall.

For Stephen's Backpacks, we filled 100 backpacks and there was even extra stuff that didn't fit so we filled 2 more boxes!  Thank you for all your donations!

Math - In math we have been working on subtracting and answering word problems.  Once we were done, we played new math games on the computer.  There is a fun subtraction with regrouping game called "MathMan" in the more activities section of the game.

Language Arts - We have been reading and viewing legends and myths.  With a partner we made a story map from a legend using pictures and words.  Our next step will be to video us retelling that legend and putting it on Iris.

Gym - We have been playing parachute games.

Music - We have been learning,"Don't Throw Your Junk in My Backyard" and a xylophone rhythm.

Stuart has been up to no good.  Yesterday he went into Mrs. Libbey's class and had a campfire with Mindy and today Stuart made a naughty or nice list.  We cannot understand why he would possibly consider Ms. Rutland and Mrs. Perry AND Mr. Duggan naughty.

Next Week:

Caroling - on Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning in the gym.

Choir - Monday is the last choir practice and on the 19th is the field trip to the Library and Robert Thirsk High School.  Remember to wear dark bottoms and a light top or something Christmasy (if possible!)

We are looking for a parent volunteer for next Wednesday afternoon.  Please let Ms. Rutland know if you can come.
