This Week at School

Bryan - we read Gone Again Ptarmigan, Wolf Island, and Salmon Forest to learn about ecosystems and food chains.  Please see my Friday Journal for my writing about this.
Ava - We started our Weaselhead masks with our Artist-in-Residence, Ms. F.
Jonah - We began our slides shows for our animal research.
Maguire - we did a word search and a math game with our buddies today.

Ms. Rutland - it was another busy week at school - so busy we barely have time to update our blog on Fridays!  In math, students have been working on place value topics as we head into adding and subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers.  We are working on the idea of equivalency and showing how there are different ways to build and decompose numbers.  For example, 89 can be 8 tens and 9 ones, or 7 tens and 19 ones, etc.  This is a foundational concept for understanding the standard formula for borrowing in subtraction.

We have begun a designated literacy block first thing in the morning.  Mrs. Libbey and I have grouped students and are working on reading comprehension, reading fluency, and common language for all students.

For next week:
- If students have an extra shirt that they could use as a paint shirt, please bring it in for Monday.  We will be painting with acrylic paints.

- Please have students bring in their October reading logs on Monday or Tuesday.  We will send home another calendar for November.

- Please bring in your pumpkin on Monday for Pumpkinella if you'd like to participate.

- Students are not permitted to wear costumes on Halloween at Royal Oak School.  Please consider wearing black or orange instead.

Thank you!  Have a good weekend!
