Our Last Blog!

This week, we have been working on an art project.  We made ourselves into superheroes!  You will see our art at the Grade 3 Farewell Assembly on Tuesday.

In Gym, we explored Mission Impossible.  There were 4 missions and yesterday we explored them in the dark!

In Science, we completed a WebQuest for Hearing and Sound on GoogleSlides.  We will be presenting our slides next week.  I am allowed to work on these at home over the weekend!  We also worked through some centers for hearing and sound.  Some of the interesting parts were the string telephones, pan pipes, crazy kazoo, and clinking jars.  Ms. Rutland especially liked the hanging sound center!

Reminders for next week:

- The Grade 3 Farewell Assembly is Tuesday, June 26th at 10:30 am.  The BBQ starts at 11:20 and families are welcome to stay for that too!
- The last day of school is Wednesday, June 27th and it is a full day of school.

Volunteer Requests

Dear Volunteers,

1) We are in need of some awesome volunteers to help with cleaning our technology before we put it away for the summer.  If you have anytime this Thursday afternoon or Friday morning please let your classroom teacher know so that we can have enough cloths to wipe everything down.
Thank you,
The Technology Committee

2) If there is anyone with an hour or two anytime over the next few days, I have lots of filing of student work.  Could be any day, any time - please email me if you are available!
Thank you,
Mandy Rutland

T.W.A.S. June 4-8

Science - We have been learning a lot about the rock cycle.  We drew a picture in our visual journals and used Explain Everything to show our thinking.  Please check Iris for my videos!  We have also become rock scientists (geologists) to test different kinds of rocks.  The tests we are doing on rocks include: a vinegar test, a floating test, a hardness test, a magnetic test, luster test, a streak test, and finding the mass.

The Mary Poppins Play was good (but maybe a little long!)  Some thought it was interesting and we learned a new word!

Tuesday was Bike to School Day and on Wednesday the school nurse did a presentation for bike safety.  We learned that it is important to wear a proper-fitting helmet and to use hand signals when biking.

For next week:
- Studio Bell Field trip is Tuesday.  Forms MUST be turned in Monday!

Field Trip(S)

Tomorrow is our trip to Mary Poppins from 9:00-12:45.  Please have your child here at 9:00.  If they take the bus, a teacher will collect them off the school bus and move them to the field trip bus.  A teacher will also be collecting all the Grade 3 BOKS students and putting them onto the bus.  Students will bring their backpack to the theatre and eat a snack during intermission.

Today, students brought home permission forms for our next field trip - Tuesday, June 12th to Studio Bell.  Please return these forms as soon as possible due to the tight turn around.  The cost is $14.65 and if you are able to pay online it is much appreciated - as it cuts down on depositing paperwork!  However, we do accept cash and cheques if online payment is not possible.

Thank you!
Ms. Rutland

T.W.A.S. May - June 1

This week we explored rocks and minerals in Science.  In groups, we visited centers to learn more about rocks and minerals.  The centers we explored were: examining soil samples under a microscope; learning about the rock cycle; exploring websites; learning about how people use rocks and minerals and we began testing rock properties using vinegar, a flashlight, scratching materials, etc.  Next week we will continue testing rock properties!

Wednesday was Sports Day!  There were lots of activities like face painting, hockey shoot-out, water gun target, an obstacle course, basketball all around the world, balloon toss, baseball batting cage, and so much more!  We created a survey to ask students what their favourite sports day activity was and now we are organizing our results with a bar graph.

In math, we did a multi-step perimeter task,  Watch for my Iris update about it soon!

In art, our class and Mrs. Libbey's made a collaborative mural to display at the Volunteer Tea.  It was beautiful!

Circle Friday has ended.  :-(

For next week:
Thursday is our field trip to Mary Poppins.  Students MUST be at school at 9:00am (not 9:10).  We are returning to the school at 12:45.
- Watch for the Studio Bell field trip paperwork to come home next week.
