T.W.A.S. May 21-25th

Last night was our Celebration of Learning!  Here are some of the highlights:
- We had computers set out to show our IMovies about other countries.
- There was a short music concert where there was speakers and musicians (some played xylophones, chimes, and drums).  Two students in our class were the speakers (Jonah and Ava).  Special thanks to Mrs. Mann for all her hard work preparing us for this!
- There was a market where students sold the different things that we made.  The money raised will be donated to the Red Cross.  We will announce how much money we raised next week (but it was A LOT!)  Special thanks to Mrs. Phillips, Mrs. Perry, and Ms. Gummer for helping us out!
- We taught our parents how to play some games from the four countries.
- In the Learning Commons there was an Art Gallery.

This morning (Friday) was the Stampede Breakfast.

For next week:
- Please return field trip paperwork and payment
- Wednesday, May 30th afternoon is Sports Day!

T.W.A.S. April 30-May 4

T.W.A.S. April 3-May 4

With our buddies, we planted 4 different seeds in a transparent plastic cup so that we can see the seed grow.

We’ve invented a new subject: MARTH!  It is a little bit of art and a little bit of math.  We used a piece of grid paper to make an Inca design, which comes from Peru.  Our design has to be symmetrical.  Then, using oil pastels, we will fill in our design and calculate the perimeter of each colour.

We have begun skating with Alien In-Line!  This year there are mats in the middle so that students can learn balance on a softer surface.  If you’d like to volunteer, we could still use people on May 8th.  We’ve also done cup-stacking in gym (and the rumour is that our class holds some sort of record!)

In Language Arts, we wrote a Rock Poem, trying to use lots of description and give our rock a personality.  We also used similes and metaphors.

And now, our class is rushing to a presentation about Peru!

Next Week is Children's Literature Week!

Monday, May 7 – Jack and the Beanstalk and buddy activity at William D. Pratt in the morning.  Evening Open House of incoming Pratt students for families
Tuesday – In-line Skating 9:20-10:10 (volunteer needed)
Wednesday – Volunteers Needed from 10:45-12:00 for in-class activity
Thursday – Volunteers needed from 9:00-10:15 for in-class activity
Friday – Dress like your favourite book character
"What Creates Happiness" brainstorm.

Message from William D. Pratt

Dear Grade 3 Students and Parents,

We want to welcome you to William D. Pratt School next year!

In preparation for your move to Pratt, we would like to invite you and your parents to our Open House on Monday, May 7 from 6:30-8:00 pm. The open house will allow you to tour the school, meet some of the teachers and ask any questions you may have about your new school.

In addition, all students entering grade 4 are invited on Monday, May 7 from 9:15-11:45 am to come see a performance from Calgary Opera and explore what it is like to be in grade 4 at William D. Pratt. At this time you will meet some of the grade 4 teachers and have an opportunity to ask specific questions to students who are currently in grade 4. Students at Royal Oak School will be walking over with their teachers to attend this event.

I am sure this can be a scary time, if at any time you have any questions, please feel free to email me at any time.

Again, we are very excited to have your join our Mavericks next year and we hope you can make the open house.
